Among eucalypts in Pages Flat, South Australia, stands a 1980s solid pine log kit home: a modest, off-grid dwelling assembled from a catalogue system on a regular 1200mm module. Its defining feature is an external wall built from stone gathered on the site itself.

The alteration design draws on these two conditions, the order of the kit and the story of the stone. By continuing the same 1200mm rhythm, the extension and the existing dwelling read as one system, neither overpowering the other.

As the footprint extends beyond the stone wall, what once sat at the edge of the home is brought to its centre. The wall becomes the dividing element between the communal spaces and the private, and the stone the family gathered now becomes the element the household is organised around.
